2021 ADVANCED Emergency Medical Technician Course

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Course offered through Deer Park Ambulance prepares students to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for patients who access the emergency medical system. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance.  

After successful completion of the AEMT course, the student will be capable of performing the following functions:

  1. Intravenous (IV) & Intraosseous (IO) therapies

  2. Injections (Sub-Q. IM, Intradermal )

  3. Supraglottic Airways

  4. Introduction to EKGs

  5. Advanced drug administration

  6. ​Advanced Medical & Traumatic Scenario Pass off

The course is competency–based. Students must demonstrate a level of skills proficiency prior to receiving recommendation for certification.

Application Requirements:

*****IMPORTANT SCHEDULE INFO*****

Tiis class runs every WED/THUR/FRI 5:30PM - 9:30PM beginning 9/8/2021

AND

Every other SAT 9:00AM - 5:00PM beginning 9/11/2021

REQUIREMENTS:

1.       Must be at least 18 years of age by first day of class.

2.       Must have valid diploma/GED or equivalent

3.       Must be physically and emotionally capable of performing the required duties of an EMT

4.       Must be able to commit to 90% attendance or better. No more than 8 hours of class absence allowed.

5.       Must furnish copy of proof of immunization or recent titer (TB, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap)

a.   These should be documented on the “EMS Student Immunization Passport” you will be given. 

b.   Copies of proof of vaccination or immunity should be attached to the immunization passport. These can typically be obtained by your primary care doctor or school.

6. MUST BE CERTIFIED EMT WITH (1) YEAR OF EXPERIENCE

Application Process

Registrations must be received no later than two weeks prior to course start date. The course will accept up to 15 students without prior authorization. Priority is given to students who are already affiliated with an EMS/FIRE agency. Those who are not currently affiliated/sponsored by a EMS/FIRE agency are responsible for the full individual cost of the program at time of application. Acceptance to program is based on eligibility criteria listed above and on a first come/first serve basis outside of any contractual obligation.

          a. Bring completed EMS Student Immunization Passport

DOCUMENTS TO BRING FIRST DAY OF CLASS

a.  Copy of valid state-issued driver’s license

b.  Copy of high school diploma/GED

c.   Copy of proof of immunization or recent titer (TB, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap) - This is in addition to your "EMS Student Immunization Passport"

5.         Once your COMPLETE application is received, you will be emailed instructions on how to pay for course. Payment in full is required prior to the first day of class, unless arranged otherwise.

Payment plan available: $500 deposit plus 13 payments of $78.57, paid weekly. Final payment of $78.59.
